Courses and Expectations

At The King’s Academy, we believe that success in the Sixth Form is built on high standards, commitment, and mutual respect. Our course expectations are designed to help every student thrive academically, personally, and socially, while preparing for future education and employment. Our school values — Aspire, Belong, Care — are at the heart of Sixth Form life as they are in lower school and shape everything we do, preparing students not only for academic success but also for life beyond school.

What We Expect from Our Students

  • Commitment to Learning – Attend all lessons punctually, come fully prepared, and engage actively in class.

  • Independent Study – Dedicate time outside of lessons to consolidate knowledge, complete assignments, and extend learning.

  • Positive Attitude – Demonstrate resilience, curiosity, and a willingness to take on challenges.

  • Respect and Responsibility – Show consideration for staff, peers, and the wider community, upholding our school values at all times.

  • Professional Conduct – Maintain high standards of behaviour, presentation, and organisation, reflecting readiness for higher education and the workplace.

What Students Can Expect from Us

  • High-Quality Teaching – Experienced and specialist staff who deliver engaging, challenging lessons.

  • Personalised Support – Tailored academic guidance, pastoral care, and mentoring to help every student succeed.

  • Opportunities for Growth – Access to enrichment activities, leadership roles, and additional qualifications.

  • Preparation for the Future – Structured support with applications, CVs, interviews, and career planning.

By working together, we create a Sixth Form culture of excellence, where every student is equipped with the skills, knowledge, and confidence to stand out in further education and employment.

Coursework

All vocational courses have a coursework element to them. Coursework refers to work that is completed independently and not under external examination conditions; however, the marks awarded for the coursework do contribute towards the final grade of the subject concerned.

Departments ensure that students are aware at the beginning of each academic year of major coursework requirements, including dates, deadlines and the Joint Council for Qualifications (JCQ) guidelines. Coursework must be the independent work of the student concerned and all deadlines must be met.
